Hi.
I normally made this mod for personal use but I thought there might be some others out there interested in it. If you're like me, you might have been bothered by how the M16A4 is called, well, M16A4, despite the real M16A4 not having a fully automatic fire mode. You may have also thought that M4A1 would be a better option for the Greenbelts stock assault rifle. This little mod here does just that: All M16A4s in the game will turn into M4A1s, complete with a custom model, vanilla-like icon, and the name. It also doesn't disable your access to online servers as the changes are completely client side with no advantage to you whatsoever.
You can find a few screenshots here. The installation process is a bit tricky, but if you follow these steps you should be fine. It should go without saying that you should be making backups of all the files you're changing here. I will not be responsible if you have trouble uninstalling this mod if you don't make backups.
1.
https://www.sendspace.com/file/zdz4vj2. Rename "m4a1.png" to "hud_m16a4.png"
3. Place your new "hud_m16a4.png" to "steamapps/common/RunningWithRifles/media/packages/vanilla/textures". Replace the old "hud_m16a4.png" when asked.
4. Rename "m4a1.xml" to "assault_rifle4.xml"
5. Place your new "assault_rifle4.xml" to "steamapps/common/RunningWithRifles/media/packages/vanilla/models". Replace the old "assault_rifle4.xml" when asked.
6. Go to "steamapps/common/RunningWithRifles/media/packages/vanilla/weapons" and open the "m16a4.weapon" file with a text editor.
7. On the name part, change the entry from "M16A4" to "M4A1". Do not change anything else.
8. Save and close.
If you've followed all these steps correctly, all M16A4s in your game should now look like M4A1s. Once again, this has no effect on the gameplay or your weapon performance, nor will it cause issues when trying to play online.
Enjoy.
