Hey, ive recently bought the game.
Downloaded it fine, installation seemed to be fine aswell.
But when i try launch it, nothing happens at all.
Ive tried as administrator, or launching it directly after installation with the "Launch running with rifles now" option.
But norhing happens, tried reinstalling it. And updated direct x and my graphic card driver etc.
I actually have an ATI Radeon.

When i try run the config, it shows all the options completely empty.
So it doesnt say anything next to video mode, full screen, atnialias etc.

Hope someone can help me,
Chalker

First of all - thanks for pre-purchasing!

The options being empty in the config usually points to problems with DirectX 9.0c version or graphics card drivers. Did you try this yet http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35?

Which Windows do you have? On Vista and Windows 7 you can access the RWR log files at "C:\ProgramData\Running with rifles", there's rwr_config.log; could you paste the file on the forum? On Windows XP, the log files are in something like "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Running with rifles" or "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Running with rifles".

EDIT: misread your post about updating DirectX.. I'm starting to skip lines, bad habit. Ok, the next thing to look at is still rwr_config.log file.

I just searched through my e-mails, and there was one occasion where a problem like this was solved by creating a config.xml file in the aforementioned folder manually. I've copied an example at http://www.modulaatio.com/runningwithrifles/config.xml with the most basic settings, I'd be curious what happens if you copy that file to the "ProgramData\Running with rifles" folder or the one for Windows XP, and launch the game.

Victory!

The problem was actually solved by opening the config.xml file with notepad++ and changing it to:
<options>
<videomode>1024 x 768 @ 32-bit colour</videomode>
<fullscreen value="0"/>
<vsync value="0"/>
<antialias>0</antialias>
<audiodevice value="0"/>
</options>

I can now play the game. Thanks for the help!
Edit: You might want to add a section to the forum with known issues and ways to fix them.
If you find ANY free time that is :)
Thanks for the help and keep up the great work!

Glad that it works now, although there's still something wrong in the config that it does this on some PCs. For some reason the rendersystem doesn't get properly initialized in the config for getting the graphics hardware capabilities, certain important lines on the log don't show up, and so all options end up empty. The funny part is that the rendersystem manages to initialize just fine in the actual game on the same PC.

Good idea about collecting the issues and workarounds to a single place, maybe I'll add a sticky post on the Suggestion forum at some point with the problem-fix -pairs. There's hope most of them will eventually become unneeded as the game becomes more robust.
