for the griefers and trolls.

i was playing a game earlier with some guy named 'norman' who was grenading his own team / running them over / pushing them off of rooftops or out of position.

i feel like if people are finding this game via pirate bay or whatever, we'll be in store for more of that kind of behavior, and we could nip that in the bud with some kind of voting/banning system. as an aside, the ability to ignore specific users to keep chat spam to a minimum would help as well.

Good idea, something every game needs. A few points:
How do you stop people from abusing the system? (like votekicking players randomly)
If the game gets greenlit, will it use steam to stop piracy at all?
What should be the limit for autokicks? 10 team mate grenade kills?

fortunately this doesn't happen often, for myself I never sww that happening. But once we get several thousand active players this will most likely happen a bit more often, like in every other games. We didn't yet think about a method to counter it. Once it will be on steam it will be easier to track down those people as every player will be bound to an account. Let's just hope this won't happen often till we find a solution as this is really something we would aim to see in a very late version.

A vote kick / ban by IP / remove profile -kind of thing is possible to setup by the server admin in 0.85.

Like firearrows pointed out, votekicking might have its problems too.

it could be a 'majority wins' vote. better than ignoring the victims, who will most likely leave the game or decide to not play at all. it works for games like KAG. obviously it would need to be set up to where it cannot be exploited.

another option is to allow players/admins to rank each other. have everyone start neutral, and if you play with a team that is helpful and fun you can give them positive rank at the end of a match [VALOR]. if a user is vote-kicked they earn negative rank, and you could have an option where users under a certain threshold cannot join the game [COURT MARSHALL'D].

just a thought.

i haven't had any issues outside of the one guy, but it got me thinking that with the aforementioned Steam version and player base that comes with it, it might be a good idea to have -something- in the works.

Will we get bound accounts/names outside steam too?
Because currently I guess anyone could connect with anyone else's name on the persistent servers and that could very well cause some trouble.
If not I guess a solution for servers could be to implement ip-bound names.
Or if not that, maybe unique passwords for each player could be possible?

i'm pretty sure that if you've used a password on a stat-saving server, it retains that info so if anyone tries using your name it won't work.

i know that the sas/us invasion servers both ask for my password if i forget to enter it.

Wouldn't mind something myself at times. There is always some one and as it is there really is nothing anyone can do. Other than stop playing and/or start team-killing them in return which gets dumb fast. Or turn off all possible friendly-fire, including against vehicles, which may just be an easier solution.

This would be nice. Also to possibly have an integrated invite system for Steam friends for quick join co-op.

So, we got the first account deletion on SAS today.
If someone is teamkilling on purpose for a while, it's an insta account deletion and he can restart from scratch. We don't always warn if the case is evident enough.

Killing someone because he dragged you out of a vehicle isn't tolerated either. If he has a higher rank, you have to take up a subordinate role to him, it's not different in the army ;)
I just hope that higher ranked player don't abuse their power, be fair to the greenhorns. Keep in mind that too much abusing of your status could also turn into a warning.

That being said, we are satisfied of the bahaviour of most runners. I saw a lot of helpful people in coop and that's how it should be.

Hmm... I see that some formal laws are starting to become true (deleting somebody's account for griefing is surely a sight that is happening), so there is one thing I would like to talk about.

Sometimes I see high ranked players that go AFK. Nothing bad with it - I also do this, and everybody do this. However problem starts when they are "holding" 10 bots with themselfs. Most of time it does not matter really. But sometimes it does - for example: KOH Power Junction map.

If I find such player standing in one place for rather long time (10 minutes? 15? You get idea) in one spot and not doing anything I kill him with grenade. There is no ill will in this, there is no hatred or wish to grief other player. All I want is to make those bots go into frontline, insted of idlining with high ranked player that went AFK without turning down his squad limit beforehand. I do this indiscriminately - friend or somebody I don't really like - does not matter. All that matters for me in those extremly rare situations is allowing those 6 - 10 bots to fight. So my question is simple...

Acceptable? Or reportable and worthy of punishment? I would like to underline fact that it happened to me like 3 times since... Hmm... Since KOH has been added - so very rare.
