Just starting this for collecting various stuff we figure out about mapping.
Feel free to contribute. :)

I'll start off with this one which popped up when I was helping The_Soldier figure out how to make hedgerows.

Pasting objects along a path

Ever wanted to make a nice line of trees/bushes along a path with perfect spacing? Then this is for you. This should work for pretty much any object btw, I'm just gonna use trees as an example here.

1. First off make sure you have the right layer selected
Image

2. Make a path by either drawing it with the freehand tool (F6) or the bezier/straight line tool (Shift + F6)
Image

3. Copy another tree and and make sure it's selected

4. Select the path too by Shift+clicking on it.

5. Select from the Extensions menu > Generate from Path > Scatter...

6. Tweak settings to your liking, turning on Live preview may help visualizing this. When you are finished click Apply
Image

7. Ungroup the new object by either right clicking it and selecting Ungroup or Ctrl+Shift+G
Image

8. Delete the path and you should be left with only the trees
Image

9. Save and test ingame, here's my results of what I just did:

And then you're finished. Hope this is useful to someone. :)
